Tonight Matthew……

….. I am going to be Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam.

I downloaded Pearl Jam’s latest album yesterday. I still haven’t listened to it but as a result of having Pearl Jam on my mind I can’t stop singing ‘Elderly Woman behind the counter in a small town’ which was from one of their albums in the early nineties. Showing my age. I’m going to stick the iPod on and give the new album a ’spin’.

I quite liked the nineties. I had long hair. And a leather jacket with band logos painted on it. I was a heavy metal warrior. At least I thought I was. In hindsight I was just a knob with bad hair. But I don’t think about that too much as it spoils the rose tinted memories of nights at The Venue watching the likes of Sacred Reich, Acid Reign and The Beyond. I remember paying £6 to get into the Calton Studios to see Nirvana. They played for 25 minutes before Kurt Cobain swung his guitar round his head three times and then smashed it into the drumkit before storming off, never to return. What a 25 minutes though.

In the early nineties, I seemed to be getting into new bands all the time. Now I stick with tried and tested old favourites. Not necessarily a bad thing, as the attachment to particular artists runs deeper now but I’d still like to return to that buzz now and again. Give it another 5 years and I’ll be 40. Will I suddenly start buying ‘The Best Rock Anthems Ever’ type albums? Who knows. I bloody well hope not.

And so to the Hearts. We were beaten 1-0. Not only beaten. Humped. The club is now in freefall and the Romanov era is becoming a farce. I can’t bring myself to say any more.

Here’s a bizarre one. Listening to the radio this morning on my way to work, I’d swear there was a news report on Bill Cosby settling out of court on claims that he drugged a woman and sexually assaulted her. Bill Cosby? WTF?
