As the song says - “Thank God for the internet”.
Given that I’m an internet nut, then this may not be the most objective post. As I sit here at lunchtime I can’t help but wonder at the marvel that is the web. Without it, you certainly wouldn’t be reading my thoughts on this or any other subject, unless I were a journalist, an author or someone who’s words the press thought worthy of publication.
The internet lets me send an instant message to anywhere in the world. I can send an email “letter” in seconds to a friend in Australia. If I actually had a friend in Australia that is, but you get my point. If I’m bored I can read up on whats happening in the world within a couple of clicks. I can usually find the answer to any question I can think of. The answer may not always be true but then again who cares. It’s the internet right ? The (dis)information superhighway.
More to the point though, the internet allows me to watch American kids on skateboards attempting impossible jumps, battering their bollocks on railings and then smashing all their teeth in in a horrendous faceplant landing.
Amen to that.

It is truly amazing when you think how it has changed evryone’s lives, ways of communicating, shopping, enjoying different media and so on.
All in such a short space of time too, relatively. I was thinking about that on Sunday morning, lying in bed with my wireless 3G laptop, connecting to my PC at work, and through that connecting to PC’s in restaurants all over the country. It wasn’t so long ago, that there would have been cables everywhere, a huge machine, a huge phone bill and horrifically slow downloads!!
