New year, new operating system

Happy New Year. I can’t believe it’s 2007 already. It seems no time since it was 1997 and the Labour party stormed to power. Seems hard to believe now given Tony Blair’s rapidly declining popularity. Anyway, I digress.
We didn’t do anything for New Year and it was great. Living in Edinburgh you get a bit pissed off with the whole thing, basically because about 500,000 pissed people descend on the city for the street party and related events. Initially it was a great buzz but now it’s just a pain in the arse for residents with transport all bolloxed and vomit everywhere. This year however, nature saw to the whole thing and blew the event off the map (quite literally). Everything cancelled due to gale force winds. Ta ta Pet Shop Boys et al.
After some crazy issues with Windows XP over Christmas, I decided to flatten ‘the beast’ and install Windows Vista. So far it’s looking good albeit with the usual driver compatibility issues associated with a new operating system. I’m running the final release version, not the BETA or RC1 version, which is nice. Those lovely people at Microsoft gave me a free copy of the operating system because I am an MSDN subscriber. Membership has a lot of benefits.
So what for early 2007? Well the main event has to be the Marillion Weekend in Holland. I can’t wait. It should be superb. Me and my mate are going and it will be a drunken Marillion-fest for 4 days. Exactly a month to go now. I’ll need to start swotting up on ‘This Strange Engine‘ as they are playing that album in full on the first night. I’m not fond of some of the tracks on it - e.g. Hope For The Future - but the majesty of the title track is a delight and one I’ve never enjoyed live.
I am a Marillion nerd or as we are known in Marillion fan circles an ‘Anorak’ (after the 2001 album ‘Anoraknophobia‘)
