Well, I’m still in one piece after my ghost vigil in the Blair Street vaults on Saturday night. It ended up being fairly uneventful in the physical sense. No sign of the faceless ghost, the cobbler or the small child supposedly murdered by ‘Mr Boots’. A couple of orbs on the night vision camera but given that there were 20 people and a lot of dirt and dust then that is in itself inconclusive.
It didn’t help that the medium was quite clearly either a fake or was having an off night. Too many vague statements (and imagine a strong Glasgow accent here) such as ‘I can pure sense ghosts here man’. No shit Sherlock. At one point she even claimed to have picked up the ghost of William Burke (one half of Edinburgh’s famous graverobbing duo). None of these things would be unusual but for the fact that she suddenly seemed to lose her ‘powers’ later on and even mixed up the rooms where she claimed to have picked up spirits. My betting is that the regular medium called in sick anf they had to draft in someones old mum fairly pronto.
That aside though, the most impressive part of the night was the Electronic Voice Phenomenon experiments we carried out. Various questions were asked by us whilst recording with a digital recorder. After each question there was complete silence, however upon playing the tape back, an angry male voice could be heard. Most of it was unintelligble and distorted but it was definitely a voice, definitely male and definitely pissed off. An angry roar is the best way I could describe it. It certainly sent a shiver down your spine.
I’m not a certified believer by any means and the dodgy medium and a series of people who wanted to believe more than they wanted the facts didn’t help that. However, the voices are beyond explicable.
