Will September end?

One of the worrying things about bringing a child into the world is the sheer number of mad fuckers out to do us harm. Take for example the 5 guys sentenced yesterday for scheming to blow up Bluewater shopping centre in the name of Allah. What kind of screwed up logic actually makes that seem like a just act?

It always amazes me that these fundamentalist terrorists think they will achieve their aims and bring this country to it’s knees. Do they not read their history books? The most powerful war machine in the history of mankind couldn’t bring this country to it’s knees. London, Glasgow, Coventry, Liverpool - all bombed to breaking point - and still this country didn’t crack. We will fight them on the beaches. Winston Churchill and the RAF. It all seems so innocent now.

It does make you worried about being a parent though. When I was a kid it seemed all that parents had to worry about was teaching you how to cross the road (or letting the Tufty Club teach you to be more precise) and making sure you didn’t drink bleach or weedkiller. Alright, so global thermonuclear war was a bit of a concern but if that happened then everyone was fucked so it kind of took the edge off the worry a bit I suppose.

Now you’ve got paedophiles, the internet, boyos flying planes into buildings and plans to sell poisoned hamburgers from sinister vans. What kind of world is this?
