Wheels of Steel/Back in Azeroth

I’m off drinking in Glasgow tomorrow. It could get messy. Hopefully not as messy as the last time though. I’m going to see Saxon at the Glasgow Garage. Heavy metal. Back to the 80’s vibe. New wave of old wave of renewed interest in wave of British Heavy Metal.

Saxon in their heyday were brilliant and I still like their stuff now. Biff Byford was my first heavy metal hero. I bought the ‘And the Bands Played On’ single when I was about 10 years old. I wanted a Saxon patch on my denim jacket when I was wee but my mum wouldn’t let me. Big fuck off eagle standing on top of a motorbike wheel. Magic. I spent hours trying to copy the axe-blade style ‘S’ in their logo. I never got it right.

I spent my teenage years becoming reacquainted with Saxon. I urged Suzie to hold on. I wanted to Rock The Nations. I went to see them at the Edinburgh Playhouse. I ripped my jeans to make me look more heavy metal. Fat chance. Looking back I realise just how much of a spotty heavy metal geek boy I was. I couldn’t compete with the older metal fans. They had long hair, leather jackets, patches the lot. Me? Dodgy Megadeth t-shirt. Not official merchandise. You know the kind of T-shirt I mean, Vic Rattlehead looked funny and the logo was slightly off centre. T-shit as opposed to T-shirt.

Anyway, I’ll let you know how it goes.

I reinstalled World Of Warcraft last night. The good lady is away in London for the weekend visiting friends and buying maternity wear/baby stuff. I have what is commonly known to us blokes as a free pass. I intend to spend tonight watching football, farting and playing Warcraft. It’s been a while since I spent any time in Azeroth. My character has become slightly stuck in a rut. I’ve not been able to commit the time to move up from level 33. I may even be tempted to give my alternate character (Swiftriver the Tauren) a run out.

For anyone who hasn’t played Warcraft, I’ll bet the last paragraph went right over your head. Talking about betting, I need to put a wee bet on the FA Cup Final tomorrow. C’mon United.
