100 days in captivity

Wherever you are today, take 5 minutes to think of Alan Johnston, the BBC reporter in Gaza who has spent 100 days in captivity today. Alan is a fellow Scotsman, so I feel a particular affinity for the man.
The deteriorating political situation in Gaza recently has led to his captors threatening to execute him if their demands are not met. This is a worrying development which is hopefully more about gaining political leverage with Hamas than an actual desire to murder the man.
As bloggers, we are all reporters in a way. We report on our daily lives. Alan reported on the daily lives of Palestinians and did much to raise international awareness of their plight. Whatever the rights and wrongs of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, it is essential that impartial reporters feel safe to live and work in Gaza, lest the truth will be sacrificed.
Please take the time to think of Alan today and if you have time, click Alan’s photo in the sidebar and ’sign’ the petition for his release.
