Modern comics

I was wondering last night about modern comics. Not that Marvel Superhero shite, proper comics like ‘The Beano’ and ‘The Dandy’. I was thinking in particular as to whether they try and make them relevant to todays kids. Does Dennis the Menace have a mobile phone. Is he still allowed to punch Walter the Softie, or is that banned as it ‘promotes violence’?

More to the point, have they made the weapons of choice relevant to todays generation of children? After all, in my day it was all blancmanges, custard pies and anvils, with the odd Piano dropped out of a window thrown in for good measure. Do kids still eat blancmange? I’ve not seen one for years. I would be very disappointed if Beryl the Peril smacked someone over the head with Dairylea Dunkers.

I must buy a comic this week and see what the score is.
