Seven up

My first meme, borrowed from The Girl In The Cafe.

“List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they’re not any good, but they must be songs you’re really enjoying now, shaping your spring. Post these instructions in your blog along with your 7 songs. Then tag 7 other people to see what they’re listening to.”

So, in no particular order, 7 songs that I can’t seeme to shake from my iPod at the minute. In no particular order incidentally.

  1. My Heart is a Fist - Papa Roach. Discovered this song via Last FM and was intrigued by the fact that the first couple of lines in the intro are vaguely reminiscent of Rainbow’s “I Surrender”. Basically because they contain such words as “I surrender” and “pretender”. Joe Lynn Turner for the next generation. Magic song.
  2. Leah - Neal Morse. Any song about someone’s wife leaving them with a teary daughter and an angry dug does it for me every time. Sheer class. Leeeaaaaahhhhh.
  3. We All Need Some Light - Transatlantic. Mr Morse makes another appearance at number 3. This time he’s wittering on about criminals, wino’s and junkies. Presumably these denizens of the underworld were at least partly responsible for his becoming a God botherer. Great subject matter for listening to walking up Leith walk of a morning. Most appropriate.
  4. The Toy Master - Avantasia. Alice Cooper provides vocals on this track about an evil toy maker who scares wee bairns witless. What’s not to like.
  5. The Great Escape - Marillion. Hogarth era Marillion’s finest moment. Sweeping, brooding and haunting in equal measures. “A mountain isn’t far to fall when you’ve fallen from the moon”. Sheer unadulterated class.
  6. Megadeth - A Tout Le Monde. Pure class. Heavy metal with culture. Well, heavy metal with a bit of french in the lyrics anyway, which is the same thing isn’t it? Dave Mustaine on fine form as the voice from beyond the grave.
  7. Ray Wilson - Carpet Crawlers. The former Genesis and Stiltskin vocalists interpretation of this Genesis classic makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Leith’s finest former Genesis singer. Cos there’s loads of them right enough.

I’m not tagging anyone but feel free to stick this on your own site.

This makes my list look very girly actually. And I can almost guess your age by the list ;o)
