Some days have strange twists that just make you wonder about the natural order of things. Yesterday was one of them. I mean, what are the chances of both myself and my 10 month old son both ending up with split lips by the end of the day?
My son’s was as a result of a rough looking tumble from the bed. Just as Jimmy Hill’s chin does not extend to the end of his beard, neither does our bed extend to the end of our duvet. Sam didn’t quite realise this and took a header off the bed and landed face first on a stone hearth. Not good. The shock you feel when you pick your child up and he is bleeding profusely is not an experience either of us are in a hurry to repeat. He now has a fat top lip which makes him look like some sort of bizarre Tapir child.
My burst lip came shortly afterwards in a bizarre, sushi-related, driving accident. Crawling along in traffic with a selection of takeaway sushi on the front seat, I was temporarily distracted by said sushi falling forward into the footwell. Long enough for me to miss the fact that the car in front had slammed on the anchors.
Needless to say the car came to an abrupt halt, as did my face as it hit the steering column. Cue blood and a hole in my lip which you could insert your little finger into. The resulting damage to both face and vehicles was minute in comparison to what could have happened though.
On a lighter note, the car I hit was being driven by the wonderfully named Ignatious K Chin Jnr, a gentleman from Hong Kong who is here on holiday. He was very nice about it all and seemed more concerned about the copious amounts of blood emanating from my face than any damage to his car. What a handle though, Ignatious K Chin. Not a name you would get away with growing up in Scotland.
Our holidays are now over. We had a great time in both Kilkenny and Tramore in Ireland. We spent a lot of time visiting the beaches in the area. There was even time for a spot of fishing, with a few mackerel caught and eaten. Not a bad fortnights rest and I’m all refreshed and ready to go.
The first part of the break was spent getting Sam christened. He’s now best mates with the big man upstairs. All sorted. Personally, I’m not much of a believer but he may well be so at least it gives him the option I suppose. Holy water and discreet envelopes full of money make the Christian world turn it seems.
It’s good to be back.
